Six Months

Iconic Architecture and Design

has been in business for six months. For Karen Shakman and Kelli Berry (your humble author) this has been the busiest time I can remember.
To add a little more interest to our responsibilities Karen has been attending ASU to obtain her Masters Degree in Healthcare Design and Healing Environments. We have had an amazing ride since January 2010.

We’ve added two team members, Aimee Martinelli and Brittnay Carpenter, both enrolled at ASU in interior design and architecture respectively.
We’ve hosted The Healthcare Chicks at our office, sponsored a hole for a charity golf tournament supporting Paradise Valley Hospital and the Arizona Foundation for Eye Health We were also one of the lucky  sponsors of Pipeline Worldwide for the benefit of The BorderlineAZ to provide fresh water wells in Africa and India and I held an art exhibit at StudioADT in Tempe. Whew!

We have been blessed with good consistent work such as Thunderbird Global School of Management Historical Tower renovation, Paradise Valley Hospital outpatient lobby remodel, boardroom addition, and coffee shop, We Care Urgent Care, KiDD’s Play, St. Joseph’s Outpatient Surgicenter Remodel, Superstition Mountain Mental Health Facility for Saemisch DiBella Architects, Banner Home Health for Abbott +Taylor and several smaller physician office remodels.

Our website is almost complete, with just some minor tweaks, so check it out and enjoy.  Karen and I plan to have some educational information forthcoming to support evidenced based design, responsible sustainability practices and a myriad of other subjects our experience has taught us.In the meantime if we can be of service please feel free to contact us.

First Annual Cinco de Mayo Golf Tournament

| Cinco de Mayo Golf Tournement |

We were fortunate enough to sponsor a hole for the First Annual Cinco de Mayo Golf Tournament to benefit Arizona Foundation for Eye Health on the 5th of May, 2010 in partnership with Paradise Valley Hospital. Korey Sims, Facilities Director was the ramrod for this auspicious event and fine job he did too.

Grayhawk Raptor course was the scene of the crime and good time was had by all, including the Havelina that joined us. Karen and I worked the hole giving away Iconic multi USB ports and a hard time to every golfer who was lucky enough to come our way, all the while sipping some delicious margaritas in honor of the holiday. It was a tough job, but someone had to do it.

Karen and I were sporting huge Iconic Blue suede sombreros embellished with silver and white cording; well you can see the photos for yourself and make your own judgment. We gave away a round trip ticket on Southwest Airlines, A couple of dozen Callaway golf balls, some tequila and a lot of free laughs.

We look forward to joining the Paradise Valley folks and The Arizona Foundation for Eye Health next year for their second year’s festivities.

Iconic Architecture and Design. Have you heard of them? Allow me to make an introduction. Karen Shakman and Kelli Berry have partnered to form the company Iconic Architecture and Design, LLC. January 1, 2010 is our official start date, however we already have four or five projects in the pipeline.

Karen hails from Brazil and holds her architectural license both here in Arizona and in Brazil. I am from the south, so I am pretty sure that makes us a multicultural firm.

Our firm will focus on health care, as I have been working in that market for over thirty years and Karen is in the process of obtaining her masters in health care design and systems from ASU. We utilize evidenced based design, and constantly track the latest technologies for our clients.
