Karen Shakman is one of the principals of Iconic Architecture and Design. Graduated in Industrial Design in 1992 (Brazil) and Architecture and Urban Planning in 1993(Brazil), she immigrated to the United States in 2001 where has obtained her American Professional Registration (2006) and LEED Accreditation (2007). Currently, Karen Shakman is pursuing a Master of Science Degree in Design of Healthcare and Healing Environments at Arizona State University and her thesis theme will be exploring the implementation of sustainability practices in existing healthcare facilities.

Karen Shakman has a diverse and multi-national background in the field of architecture and design. The scope of her experience involves numerous projects both in her native country of Brazil and in the United States. This enables her to “problem-solve” through a variety of provincial and diverse socio-economic scenarios. In addition to training in Architecture and Urban Planning, her bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design has been instrumental towards generating creative solutions for many projects, specifically within the field of Interior Design.

Karen Shakman expresses herself in the rethinking, reinvestigating and reinterpreting of all project details and possibilities, while still maintaining high-efficiency in the creative process and ‘setting the bar’ for client satisfaction, looking to the future by implementing technologies available at the time and on the cusp of introduction, design quality and a thought-provoking working environment to enhance the space of the client.
